Bracchiation – Swinging
through the trees by one's arms, overhand, from branch to branch, as the apes
(especially the gibbons and orangutans) and spider monkeys do.
Digitigrade – A way of
describing animals that walk on their toes (like birds and horses).
Fly
– To move through the air on purpose to get
from one place to another, usually using wings; several different kinds of
animals, from insects to birds to bats, have wings and can fly.
Plantigrade – A way of
describing animals that walk on the flat part of their feet, like bears and
humans
Swim – To move in
the water on purpose to get from one place to another; many animals swim, but
the way they swim differs a lot.
Walk – To move on
the land on purpose using legs to push an animal from one place to another one
step at a time.
